Wow, the fourth weekend in February is upon us. It’s a unscheduled weekend off from work for me and one month before the Oakland Marathon.
This Saturday will be my last 20 miler before my 27th career marathon and this one feels different than the others. The last two weeks have been my best workouts in several years and that is a good feeling.
The San Francisco Bay Area has had unbelievable weather going back to late November. There have been cold to cool days and nights but not much in the way of rain. However, this area definitely needs the precipitation however.
This year more than ever, I’ve seen more people out and about. Not only people are out running but they’re either cycling, walking, rollerblading, swimming or whatever. Definitely good but it does crowd the roads, trails and even the Golden Gate Bridge. Unfortunately right now, the bridge on its 75th anniversary has only one side open for bicycles, runners and walkers. It’s unfortunate but that is the way things work in San Francisco.
There are other races going on besides Oakland. Some people are tapering for the Napa Valley Marathon that is a week from Sunday. Others are looking at some local races such as Across The Bay 12K, Zippy’s 5K and the Bay To Breakers 12K. It’s about six weeks or so before the Boston Marathon. There are also trail and ultraruns going on in the Bay Area.
Hopefully, everyone will enjoy this weekend. There’s a possibility of rain in the forecast for a couple of days next week. Though I’ll run in the rain, the sunny weather we’ve been experiencing is mentally a lot easier for runners.
Have a good weekend whereever you are!
